True to the motto “Everyone needs a vice”, as a born connoisseur, I couldn't help but indulge in high-proof sooner or later and taste the gins of this world.
From England to America. From simple juniper brandies to the fine drops that I can still taste on the tip of my tongue today. I spent more nights in bars than many a waiter, philosophizing with experienced drinkers and dueling with professional connoisseurs. Through this entire, not inconsiderable experience, I dare to say that I have become a "Gintleman".
But what was the summary of my years of, let's call it “intensive research”? That it is most beautiful at home in Austria - or "Austria" as I always had to call it! But also that the homeland needs its own, really good gin. A classic that leads back to the origins, but with its variety of flavors catapults you into another world. A bit of the past meets the future. That was crucial for my motivation to create a recipe. The big five of gin - juniper berries, coriander, angelica root as well as lemon and orange peel - were mixed with dozens of other botanicals such as ginger, licorice, lemongrass, kaffir limes or jasmine, to name just a few, and swirled through the pots. This resulted in several hundred liters of brandy that have migrated over my palate. The fact that all ingredients had to be purely organic was my self-imposed high bar. I fiddled around for over a year and probably tasted gin for three lives.
But then the time had come. I had them - the perfect recipes. Why several recipes? Quite simply: because every day is different. And you feel different every day. And decide differently.
